South Hampton Resources Inc. Silsbee, Texas facility was awarded the Meritorious Safety Performance Award by the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA) during their 16th annual safety awards banquet held Thursday May 8th in Houston, Texas.  The award recognizes facilities who have achieved exemplary safety performance during the year 2007 with a total recordable incidence rate of 1.0 or less.  South Hampton is one of 91 petrochemical plants selected nationwide to be recognized for their excellent safety performance and commitment to safety.

Speaking shortly after accepting the award, South Hampton Resources Safety and PSM Coordinator Matt Rayburn reflected on the significance of the award,

 

“South Hampton Resources is really a special kind of place to work with its own unique and unwavering commitment to safety.   While it’s true that we’re not the biggest company in the world, our commitment to working safely is enormous.   Our safety philosophy is simple really.   Each and every South Hampton Resources employee realizes that he really is “his brother’s keeper”.  In order to remain safe we have to be accountable and responsible not only to ourselves but to our coworkers.  We each accept it as our solemn duty to hold one another to the highest standards of safe working performance, day in and day out.  Because of this we have consistently enjoyed the blessings of shared success that come from maintaining a safe workplace.”

 

South Hampton’s total recordable incident rate for 2007 was 0.0 and has currently enjoyed over 550 days without experiencing a lost time incident or accident.
